Dubai, The Gulf Observer: M.O.D UAE claimed the top position on the second day of the AJP Tour Dubai International Jiu-Jitsu Championship, held at Shabab Al Ahli Club. Saturday’s events, which highlighted the youth and masters divisions, saw stellar performances from local and international athletes. Commando Group secured second place, followed by Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club in third.

Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice-Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, praised the championship, calling it a premier international event that attracts top-tier athletes from across the globe. “The high level of participation reflects athletes’ ambition to enhance their rankings and qualify for the prestigious Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship and the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Awards. These events are crucial for nurturing local talent, giving our athletes invaluable experience competing against world-class opponents,” Al Dhaheri said.

This is the second jiu-jitsu event hosted by Shabab Al Ahli Club this season, following the Jiu-Jitsu Vice-President’s Cup in June. Thani Majid bin Sulaiman, Director of Combat Sports at the club, expressed pride in hosting such significant events. “Our successful partnership with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Dubai’s strategic location have enabled us to host major international competitions. We are honored to support the event and ensure it meets the highest international standards,” he stated.

Tiago Vargas, coach of M.O.D UAE, also expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance. “It’s a great opportunity for our athletes to stay competitive and prepare for the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. Our team secured third place on the first day and collected several medals on the second. We brought a large contingent to make the most of this experience,” he commented.

Among the standout performers was Adam Idigov from Al Wahda Club Jiu-Jitsu Academy, who won gold in the Youth Men’s GI / Blue / 94KG category. “Winning first place in such a competitive event is a thrilling achievement. I’m excited for what the rest of the season holds,” Idigov said.

Mohammed Alghaithi of M.O.D UAE, who took gold in the Men’s GI / Brown / Master 2 / 120KG category, reflected on the challenge of competing at such a high level. “The AJP Championships push me to my limits, and winning gold today is a significant step towards my goal of earning a black belt,” he remarked.

The championship will conclude tomorrow, with amateur and professional athletes from the region and beyond competing for top honors.
