Malaysia Welcomes US$14.7 Billion Investment from American Tech Giants

Vientiane, The Gulf Observer: Malaysia has welcomed the proposed US$14.7 billion investments by major U.S. technology companies, including Google, Microsoft, Enovix Corporation, Amazon Web Services, Abbott Laboratories, and most recently Boeing.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made this announcement during a courtesy call with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits on Thursday, October 10.
Anwar also extended an invitation to the U.S. delegation for the next Senior Officials Dialogue in Putrajaya at the end of October, as both nations celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Malaysia-U.S. Comprehensive Partnership.
“Malaysia appreciates the United States’ leadership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2735 and urges the U.S. to use its influence to swiftly implement the resolution,” Anwar said.
UNSC Resolution 2728, passed on June 10, 2024, called for an immediate ceasefire of hostilities in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of State, in a statement following the meeting, reiterated its support for Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN next year. Department spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized the importance of the Malaysia-U.S. Comprehensive Partnership, noting its 10th anniversary, and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthening economic, security, and people-to-people ties.
