Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Maroc Telecom (IAM) and Inwi (Wana Corporate) have signed an expanded partnership agreement to accelerate the deployment of fibre optic and 5G technologies across Morocco. The collaboration aims to strengthen digital infrastructure, enhance market stability, and position Morocco as a key destination for investment in the telecom sector.

Under the agreement, the two telecom operators will establish two joint ventures, each equally owned (50/50). The first, FiberCo, will oversee the expansion of fibre optic networks, targeting 1 million connections within two years and 3 million within five years. The second, TowerCo, will manage the construction of 2,000 new telecom towers in three years and 6,000 towers over the next decade to support the rollout of 5G technology.

The first phase of the project is valued at AED 4.4 billion over three years, pending approval from Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT).

Jassem Alzaabi, Chairman of e&, hailed the agreement as a major step toward market stability and regulatory balance. He highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts in fostering a competitive telecom environment and reaffirmed e&’s commitment to compliance with both local and international regulations.

“We at e& prioritise compliance as a core ethical responsibility,” Alzaabi said. “We are committed to long-term investment in Morocco, focusing on digital inclusion, infrastructure expansion, and supporting economic sectors through advanced technologies.”

Engineer Hatem Dowidar, Group CEO of e&, emphasized Morocco’s strategic importance and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing fibre and 5G networks.

“With a clear vision for the market’s future, we aim to enhance Morocco’s regional competitiveness by strengthening digital infrastructure, supporting e-government services, and providing smart solutions,” Dowidar stated. “This partnership underscores institutional maturity and reinforces the principle that true collaboration is built on legal integrity and public interest.”

The supervisory board of Maroc Telecom and the board of directors of Inwi have approved the agreement, aligning with Morocco’s digital transformation goals and its commitment to delivering high-speed communication services.
