Megawati Soekarnoputri Awarded Honorary Professorship in Uzbekistan
Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: On Saturday, the fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, was awarded the prestigious title of honorary professor in tourism and cultural heritage by the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage (IUTCH) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The honor was presented during a ceremony held at the IUTCH Silk Road Rectorate Building, where Megawati was recognized for her exceptional contributions to Indonesia’s modern identity and her global leadership in various fields. The event also featured the graduation of the university’s master’s program students, presided over by the university’s rector, Aziz Abduhakimov, who also serves as Uzbekistan’s minister of tourism and cultural heritage.
In his speech, Abduhakimov praised Megawati’s achievements in civil law, diplomacy, education, and women’s empowerment, noting that her influence extends far beyond Indonesian borders. “Your outstanding achievements have earned you great respect, both in Indonesia and globally,” he remarked, emphasizing her role as an intelligent, humble leader who actively engages in dialogue.
Abduhakimov also highlighted Megawati’s contributions on the global stage, mentioning her participation as a keynote speaker at prominent international forums, including the 2016 World Cultural Forum, the UNESCO Memory of the World event in 2018, the 8th World Peace Forum in 2019, and the Economic and Climate Change Summit in 2022.
In recognition of her efforts to strengthen ties between Indonesia and Uzbekistan, IUTCH conferred the honorary professor title upon Megawati. This honor adds to her previously received distinctions, including honorary doctorates from the Indonesian Defense University (Unhan) and the Seoul Institute of the Arts.
“It is a privilege to award you this title in acknowledgment of your work to further cooperation between our nations,” Abduhakimov concluded.
