Megawati Soekarnoputri Exercises Voting Right in 2024 General Elections
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: On Wednesday, at 10:58 a.m. local time, the Fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, along with her family, fulfilled their civic duty by casting their votes at Polling Station (TPS) No. 053 in Kebagusan IV Dalam neighborhood, Pasar Minggu Sub-district, Jakarta.
Accompanying Soekarnoputri were her children, Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani, and politician Muhammad Prananda Prabowo. Also present at the polling station was Soekarnoputri’s granddaughter, Diah Pikatan Orissa Putri Hapsari.
The head of the Voting Organizing Team (KPPS) of TPS No. 053 called out Soekarnoputri’s name at 11 a.m. local time, following which she inserted her ballot into the ballot box. After casting her vote, she dipped her right little finger into the ink, displaying the indelible mark of civic participation to the media.
Following her voting, Soekarnoputri was scheduled to monitor the 2024 election’s quick count results at her residence on Teuku Umar Street in Menteng Sub-district, Central Jakarta. The presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair number 3, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, were also expected to join her residence to observe the quick count.
Earlier in the day, presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo voted at TPS No. 11 in Lempongsari Village, Semarang City, Central Java, while Mahfud exercised his voting right at TPS No. 106 in Sambilegi Lor, Maguwoharjo, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta Province.
The 2024 General Election encompasses the presidential-vice presidential election, legislative election, including the election of Regional Representative Council members, and provincial and local legislative elections. The General Elections Commission (KPU) has listed 204,807,222 voters on the permanent voter list (DPT).
Three presidential-vice presidential candidate pairs participating in this year’s election are Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar as No. 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as No. 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD as No. 3.
