President Joko Widodo and First Lady Cast Their Votes in 2024 General Elections
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Iriana, exercised their democratic right today by casting their votes at Polling Station Number 10 in Gambir Village, Gambir Sub-district, Central Jakarta. The distinguished couple arrived at the polling station punctually at 8:50 a.m. local time.
President Jokowi chose a classic white shirt paired with black trousers, while First Lady Iriana adorned a graceful light green kebaya, showcasing the nation’s traditional attire. Their presence was met with enthusiastic welcomes from the Voting Organizing Team (KPPS) members and fellow citizens patiently waiting for their turn.
In the electoral roll of the polling station, President Jokowi held the serial number 50, and First Lady Iriana was registered as number 47. Both patiently queued up with the fellow citizens for approximately three minutes before casting their votes in separate polling booths.
After marking their choices on the ballot papers, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana placed them securely into the designated ballot boxes. As a customary step, they dipped their little fingers in the election ink and displayed them to the press, signifying their participation in the electoral process.
The entire process unfolded seamlessly, reflecting the commitment of President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana to the democratic values upheld by the nation. The couple left the polling station at approximately 09:06 local time, setting an example for civic responsibility.
The polling station also saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, who observed the electoral proceedings.
Today marks a significant day for Indonesia, with the nation conducting the 2024 General Elections, expecting the participation of approximately 204.8 million voters. The elections encompass the selection of a president, a vice president, members of the House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and Regional Legislative Councils (DPRD) at various levels across the nation.
Three pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates are vying for the nation’s leadership in these elections: Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
