Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Millions of people took to the streets across Iran to mark the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the U.S.-backed Pahlavi dynasty and the establishment of the Islamic Republic.

Mass rallies commenced on Monday morning in Tehran and numerous cities, towns, and villages, as participants renewed their allegiance to the ideals of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini.

The demonstrations began at 9:30 local time (6:00 GMT) in 1,400 Iranian cities and towns, as well as over 35,000 villages. Participants waved the Iranian national flag and chanted slogans celebrating the historic event.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to address the gathering at Tehran’s Azadi Square, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

More than 200 resident foreign journalists and cameramen, along with over 7,000 domestic media personnel, are covering the event. Additionally, over 350 newsgroups from various channels of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and all provincial networks across the country are providing live news and video coverage of the rallies.
