Moroccan FM Urges Euro-Mediterranean Countries to Take Firm Stand Against Israeli Aggression in Gaza

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Thursday called on Euro-Mediterranean countries to adopt “strict” positions against Israel’s genocidal attacks on Gaza, stressing that the situation in the enclave undermines international law, regional stability, and the very foundations of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.
Speaking at a high-level retreat on the future of Euro-Mediterranean relations in Rabat, Bourita said: “What happens in Gaza questions our conscience and calls us to take strict positions against Israeli attacks, not only toward Palestinians.” He underscored that Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe should reshape the way countries approach Euro-Mediterranean relations, urging action over rhetoric.
Bourita criticized the imbalance in Euro-Mediterranean relations, noting that while Europe views the region as a partnership space, countries of the Southern Mediterranean often perceive the framework as one-sided. In a joint press conference with European Commissioner Dubravka Šuica, he described Israel’s actions in Gaza as “unacceptable acts” and “a major challenge to international law and regional stability.”
The foreign minister strongly condemned Israel’s “provocative” threats of displacing Palestinians, warning that such actions are violations of international and humanitarian law and would destabilize neighboring countries. He also denounced raids and provocations in Jerusalem, cautioning that they risk transforming a political issue into a religious conflict with unpredictable consequences.
Bourita further condemned Israeli attacks on neighboring countries, including Syria and Qatar, and voiced Morocco’s solidarity with Doha ahead of the upcoming Arab-Islamic summit. He warned that the overall situation in the region is “very dangerous,” requiring responsible action from the UN Security Council and permanent members.
Calling for urgent international intervention, Bourita urged the global community to “use all available tools to stop Israeli attacks,” stressing that targeting journalists and civilians not only violates international law but also offends human conscience.
The high-level retreat in Rabat brought together Euro-Mediterranean officials to discuss the future of regional cooperation amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
