Moroccan Healthcare Professionals Launch Hunger Strike in Solidarity with Gaza Medical Workers and Civilians

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Healthcare professionals across Morocco began a nationwide hunger strike today in a powerful act of solidarity with medical workers in Gaza and in protest against the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe and Israeli military aggression in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The initiative was announced by the Moroccan Coordination of Doctors for Palestine, a collective representing medical professionals nationwide. The group stated that the hunger strike seeks to express unity with Palestinian healthcare workers operating under dire conditions and to draw urgent international attention to what they describe as a campaign of systematic starvation and genocidal warfare against the Palestinian population.
The hunger strike is part of a wider campaign of protests, sit-ins, and solidarity activities taking place in multiple Moroccan cities. These demonstrations aim to amplify demands for an immediate end to the ongoing assault on Gaza and the worsening humanitarian crisis endured by civilians and healthcare providers alike.
In their official statement, the Moroccan doctors made a series of urgent demands, including:
- An immediate end to Israeli policies of starvation and siege that have deprived Gaza’s population of essential food and medical supplies.
- A halt to what they termed genocidal attacks targeting civilians, infrastructure, and particularly medical facilities.
- The opening of all border crossings to allow the entry of humanitarian aid, medical equipment, and life-saving resources.
- A call for the Moroccan government to end all forms of diplomatic normalization with Israel, citing the incompatibility of such ties with the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people.
Moroccan medical professionals have voiced deep concern over the deteriorating situation faced by their counterparts in Gaza, where repeated bombardments have rendered hospitals and clinics non-functional. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently reported that 94 percent of Gaza’s hospitals have been damaged or destroyed, leaving health workers unable to treat the overwhelming number of injured and malnourished civilians.
“This hunger strike is a cry of conscience,” said a spokesperson for the Moroccan Coordination of Doctors for Palestine. “It is an expression of our ethical and professional duty to stand with fellow healthcare providers who are risking — and losing — their lives to provide care under inhumane and unrelenting conditions.”
The Moroccan doctors’ action forms part of a broader wave of solidarity movements across the Arab world, where medical professionals and civil society groups are increasingly mobilizing in support of Gaza’s population. These movements have condemned the international community’s silence and inaction in the face of what many have labeled war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The hunger strike in Morocco is expected to continue for 24 hours, with participants staging peaceful demonstrations at hospitals and public squares in major cities including Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakesh, and Tangier.
Organizers have also indicated that further actions may follow if the international community fails to take effective steps to alleviate the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and to protect health workers and civilians from ongoing violence.
