Morocco’s IFTL Partners with Lithium-Ion Battery Pioneer Rachid Yazami to Launch EV Battery Training Program

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: In a major stride toward advancing the country’s green mobility agenda, Morocco’s Institute for Transport and Logistics Training (IFTL) has partnered with globally acclaimed scientist Professor Rachid Yazami to launch a specialized vocational program in Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery Maintenance.
The agreement, signed on Monday in Nouaceur, establishes a bachelor-level certificate aimed at equipping technicians with advanced skills in the diagnostics, maintenance, and safety management of lithium-ion batteries—crucial components in the global shift toward electric transportation.
Professor Yazami, widely recognized as the inventor of the graphite anode used in lithium-ion batteries and a recipient of the prestigious Draper Prize from the US National Academy of Engineering, will personally oversee the program’s development.
“This partnership addresses the growing electrification of transportation and the need for high-level local expertise to support the energy transition,” an IFTL spokesperson said during the signing ceremony.
Slated to launch in October 2025, the program promises an immersive and practical approach to learning, incorporating corporate internships, real-world case studies, and hands-on training to prepare students for the rapidly evolving EV industry.
The initiative positions Morocco as a regional leader in clean transport education and is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s broader decarbonization and industrial modernization goals.
