Myanmar Earns US$342 Million from Fish Exports in Ten Months

US$342

Yangon, The Gulf Observer: Myanmar generated earnings of US$342 million from the export of over 320,000 tonnes of fish in the past ten months of the current financial year 2024-2025, which commenced on 1 April, according to the Fisheries Department.

The exports comprised over 146,400 tonnes transported through maritime trade routes and more than 173,700 tonnes via land border crossings. Myanmar continues to export seafood steadily to 40 countries, including China, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Japan, through both sea routes and land borders.

According to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation, more than 20 fish species, including hilsa, rohu, catfish, and seabass, are supplied to international markets. To support seafood exports, Myanmar has over 140 cold-storage seafood processing factories, with the Department of Fisheries overseeing the annual licence renewal process.

The fisheries sector remains a significant contributor to Myanmar’s economy, and the country aims to enhance its seafood trade through improved processing and export infrastructure.
