Oman and Iraq Strengthen Bilateral Ties at 9th Joint Committee Meeting in Baghdad
Baghdad, The Gulf Observer: The Omani-Iraqi Joint Committee convened its 9th meeting in Baghdad today, co-chaired by Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman, and Dr. Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq.
In his address, Sayyid Badr emphasized the historical depth of Omani-Iraqi relations, describing them as rooted in shared visions aimed at achieving prosperity for both nations and the broader region. He reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to advancing cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, culture, and tourism to meet the aspirations of the two countries.
Sayyid Badr also lauded Iraq’s pivotal role in addressing Arab and regional challenges, particularly its dedication to the Palestinian cause. He stressed the significance of fostering regional security and stability through collaboration and constructive dialogue.
Dr. Fuad Hussein, in turn, commended Oman’s positive contributions to highlighting Arab and regional issues. He acknowledged Oman’s significant efforts in promoting security and stability across the region and expressed Iraq’s readiness to deepen ties and cooperation with the Sultanate.
Dr. Fuad emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination and joint action to support the shared interests of the two nations and contribute to the region’s stability and prosperity.
Key Outcomes of the Meeting
The meeting concluded with the signing of two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation:
- Political Consultation: An MoU between the Foreign Ministry of Oman and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq to facilitate cooperation in political consultation.
- Diplomatic Studies and Training: An MoU between the Oman Diplomatic Academy and the Foreign Service Institute of Iraq to promote collaboration in diplomatic studies and training programs.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to enhancing coordination among relevant institutions to achieve sustainable development and strengthen bonds of fraternity and partnership.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from Oman and Iraq, reflecting the importance both countries attach to advancing their bilateral relations.
