Oman Ranks 4th Globally for Quality of Life, Tops Asia

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has been ranked as the leading country in Asia for quality of life, securing the 4th position globally, according to a recent mid-year assessment by Numbeo. Oman follows Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Denmark in the global rankings, reflecting its exceptional living standards.

Luxembourg topped the global Quality of Life Index for mid-2024 with a score of 219.3 points, followed by the Netherlands with 207.5 points, Denmark with 205.6 points, and Oman with 204 points.

The Quality of Life Index is a comprehensive evaluation that considers various factors contributing to the well-being and living standards of residents. Oman’s high ranking can be attributed to its strong performance across several key areas, including purchasing power, pollution levels, housing affordability, cost of living, safety, healthcare quality, commute times, and climate conditions.

In the same survey, Qatar ranked 17th globally with 182.9 points, the UAE 20th with 175.5 points, Saudi Arabia 25th with 170.5 points, and Kuwait 37th with 152.5 points. The index uses an empirical formula that factors in metrics such as Purchasing Power Index (higher is better), Safety Index (higher is better), Climate Index (higher is better), Pollution Index (lower is better), House Price to Income Ratio (lower is better), Cost of Living Index (lower is better), Health Care Index (higher is better), and Traffic Commute Time Index (lower is better).

In addition to its quality of life ranking, Muscat, the capital city of Oman, was recently recognized as the third most scenic city at night worldwide by Travelbag, a company specializing in multi-destination trips. Muscat was ranked just behind Dubai and Tokyo, which claimed the top two spots. The ranking was determined based on criteria such as Instagram hashtags, light and noise pollution levels, and the safety of walking alone at night.
