Oman Reaffirms Firm Support for Palestinian Rights at UN Solidarity Event in Geneva

Oman

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has reiterated its unwavering support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with relevant UN resolutions.

The statement was delivered by Ambassador Idris Abdul Rahman Al-Khanjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, during the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed annually on 29 November. He underscored the significance of this day, established by the UN General Assembly in 1977, as a reaffirmation of the international community’s commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Ambassador Al-Khanjari emphasized that since the designation of this international observance, the Palestinian people continue to endure suffering under occupation and illegal practices, including restrictions on movement, settlement expansion, forced displacement, and repeated attacks on holy sites—actions he described as clear violations of international law and UN resolutions.

He expressed Oman’s deep concern over the ongoing situation and reaffirmed the Sultanate’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people in attaining their legitimate rights and fulfilling their national aspirations.

Calling on the international community, the ambassador stressed that this day symbolizes global solidarity and must serve as a reminder of its legal and humanitarian responsibilities. He urged world nations to take concrete and effective steps to curb violations and to create conditions conducive to achieving a just and lasting peace—one that restores all national rights to the Palestinian people and strengthens security and stability in the region.

Ambassador Al-Khanjari reiterated Oman’s position that true and sustainable peace can only be achieved through a just, comprehensive settlement based on UN resolutions and ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty.

He concluded by stating: “The world today needs more than statements of condemnation; it needs a genuine will to restore justice to its true meaning, human conscience to its voice, and peace to its value. The time has come for solidarity with the Palestinian people to move from words to concrete actions, and from postponed promises to deeds that end a suffering that has lasted far too long.”

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People event at the UN headquarters in Geneva highlighted the global community’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause. Participants reviewed recent developments and the growing challenges faced by Palestinians, especially in light of the recent escalation and humanitarian crisis that has caused mass displacement and a severe deterioration in living conditions in the Gaza Strip.
