Oman Sailing Championship 2023 begins in Ras Al Hadd
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The competitions of the eighth edition of the Oman Sailing Championship 2023, organised by the Oman Sail Corporation, kicked off today at the beaches of Niyabat Ras Al Hadd in the Wilayat of Sur.
The competition will last for 3 days across three categories of boats (Optimist, Elka 4 and Elka 6).
35 sailors representing the Foundation’s sailing schools, namely Al Mouj School, Musannah School and Sur School, will participate in this year’s edition. Five sailors from the Al Hamriya Sailing Team from the United Arab Emirates will also participate in the competition.
Abdulaziz bin Salem Al Sheedi, Director of Sailing Development at Oman Sail, explained that the main objective of holding the championship in Niyabat Ras Al Hadd, which is characterised by its moderate weather and waters and provides an ideal environment for sailing and high competitiveness for sailors, is to monitor the level of progress of sailors’ performance and choose the best to represent the Sultanate of Oman in upcoming international championships. It is also a platform for sailors to prove their potential and abilities in sailing, in addition to enhancing and developing their skills.
The Director of Sailing Development added: “The current edition of the championship is witnessing the participation of five sailors from the United Arab Emirates, and there is no doubt that it will be a great opportunity to exchange experiences between sailors and technical crews during the three-day races, with an average of three races per day in each category.”
