Oman Takes Major Step Towards Digital Transformation
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: A significant stride in the Sultanate of Oman’s digital transformation journey has been made with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Labour and Omantel. This partnership aims to train and qualify 86 university graduates in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and data science.
This initiative highlights Oman’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce and building a knowledge-based economy. By investing in its youth, Oman is positioning itself as a leader in the digital age.
His Excellency Dr. Mahad bin Said Baawain, Minister of Labour, emphasized that the ministry seeks to qualify graduates through this partnership with Omantel by training them in a number of future skills that will meet the needs of the modern labor market. “This will have a significant impact in enabling program members to compete for a range of jobs in the future, especially those that require such skills,” Dr. Baawain stated.
Talal bin Said Al Mamari, CEO of Omantel, noted that the agreement with the Ministry of Labour will allow Omantel to support efforts to develop the skills of Omani youth and provide them with the capabilities required in the labor market. “This agreement embodies the role expected from Omantel Academy in supporting national efforts and achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the National Programme for the Digital Economy,” he said. He further highlighted that the Academy works to enhance the efficiency of its program members by focusing on specific technical skills such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Omantel Academy, established this year, is dedicated to developing functional skills, future skills, and modern technologies that align with rapid technological advancements. These include virtual simulation, big data analysis, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
The cooperation agreement marks a pivotal step in Oman’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a robust digital economy, ensuring its workforce is prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
