Oman's National Museum Inaugurates Exhibition: "The Infinity of White

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Today, the Oman’s National Museum at Bayt Greiza proudly inaugurated the exhibition “The Infinity of White: Lucio Fontana and the Italian Artists of the Absolute,” marking a significant milestone in the cultural exchange between the Sultanate of Oman and the Italian Republic.

This exhibition, presented in collaboration with the renowned Italian foundation “Robilant and Voena,” showcases eight remarkable works of art by influential Italian artists who played a pivotal role in shaping painting and sculpture in mid-twentieth-century Italy. The artists featured include Agostino Bonalumi, Enrico Castellani, Pietro Consagra, Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, and Paolo Scheggi. The display is an exploration of how these visionaries challenged artistic traditions to unlock the boundless potential of space.

“Robilant and Voena,” an esteemed art house dedicated to promoting Italian post-war art, has played a crucial role in bringing this exhibition to fruition. As a testament to the collaboration, the foundation is lending an artwork by Agostino Bonalumi, titled “Rosso (Red),” to be displayed alongside the National Museum’s permanent collection.

Jamal Hassan Al Moosawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “The idea of the project, titled ‘A Masterpiece in Bayt Greiza,’ aims to enrich the artistic and expressive dimensions of this palace by hosting art exhibitions with splendid implications and senses within its walls, such as ‘The Infinity of White’ exhibition. We hope that visitors to the exhibition will have an unforgettable artistic experience.”

Edmondo di Robilant and Marco Voena, Partners at Robilant +Voena, shared their excitement about the exhibition, emphasizing its uniqueness as the first exhibition focusing on Spatialism and its legacy in the 1960s and 1970s to take place in the Middle East. They hope the exhibition will allow new audiences to engage with the pioneering artistic experiments initiated by Lucio Fontana and his contemporaries.

The artworks in the exhibition illustrate the diversity and innovation of the artists of this era. Bound together by the color white, symbolizing the purity of artistic ambitions and highlighting the potency of spatial experiments in monochrome, the journey through the artworks traces the evolution of the movement from the 1950s to the 1970s.

“The Infinity of White” exhibition at the National Museum contributes to the cultural vibrancy of the region, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the transformative impact of Italian post-war art on the global artistic landscape. The collaboration between the National Museum and “Robilant and Voena” signifies a commitment to international cultural dialogue and the promotion of artistic excellence.
