Pakistani Senator Commends High-Level Conduct of Azerbaijan's Snap Parliamentary Elections

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Pakistani Senator Afnan Ullah Khan has praised the organization of Azerbaijan’s snap parliamentary elections, which took place on September 1. Speaking at a briefing in Baku on Monday, the senator emphasized the high standards observed during the electoral process.

“We thoroughly reviewed the election process and found it to be organized at the highest level,” Senator Khan remarked, as reported by NHC. He extended congratulations to all parties involved and the people of Azerbaijan, expressing hope for the continued growth of democracy in the country. “We hope that democracy in Azerbaijan continues to flourish, as citizen participation is vital for the country,” he added.

On Sunday, Azerbaijani citizens cast their votes to elect members of the 125-seat National Assembly. Approximately 6.421 million registered voters participated in the election, with 990 candidates vying for seats in the Milli Majlis.

This election holds particular significance as it marks the first time in 30 years that parliamentary elections were held across all of Azerbaijan’s territory, including regions that were recently liberated from Armenian occupation. The early election was prompted by President Ilham Aliyev’s decision on June 28 to dissolve the parliament and set September 1 as the election date.
