PCB Proposes Flexible Travel Arrangements for Indian Team during 2025 ICC Champions Trophy

PCB

Lahore, The Gulf Observer: As preparations continue for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has presented a flexible proposal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ensure India’s participation amidst ongoing uncertainties. The tournament, set to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025, is facing logistical challenges due to strained political relations between the two nations.

In a bid to accommodate India’s concerns, the PCB has offered the Indian team the option to return to Chandigarh or Delhi after each match, allowing them to avoid an extended stay in Pakistan. This proposal seeks to address any reservations India may have while ensuring their participation in the highly anticipated event.

India’s participation, however, hinges on approval from the Indian government, which is expected to make its decision following security assessments. Initially, all of India’s matches were scheduled in Lahore to ensure ease of access, but recent proposals suggest a potential venue shift for one of India’s group stage matches, possibly against New Zealand, to Rawalpindi. This suggestion, driven by broadcasters, aims to expand broadcast reach and engage more fans.

The PCB has reassured the BCCI that this flexible arrangement is designed for the comfort of the Indian team and is not related to security concerns. Furthermore, a ten-day gap between India’s second and third group matches offers the Indian team the option to return home for rest or training, with the PCB facilitating seamless travel.

India is placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. The PCB remains committed to providing top-notch facilities and ensuring smooth logistics for the Indian team, whether they choose to play all their matches in Lahore or opt for a change of venue to Rawalpindi.
