PM Chính Explores Strengthened Collaboration in New Zealand Visit

Auckland, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính engaged in a series of impactful meetings during his official visit to New Zealand from March 10-11, underlining the commitment to deepen bilateral ties. On Sunday, he received Professor Neil Quigley, Vice-Chancellor of Waikato University and Chair of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in Auckland.

Expressing his high regard for Waikato University, Prime Minister Chính commended its prioritization of Vietnam in the Southeast Asian region. He applauded the university’s close cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, advocating for expanded collaboration in human resource development. Suggested areas included opening more branches in Vietnam, offering scholarships, and facilitating lecturer and curriculum exchanges.

The Prime Minister identified potential collaboration areas aligning with Vietnam’s needs, encompassing digital technology, Fintech, artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity, hydro, semiconductor chip, biotechnology, and environmental initiatives. Prof. Quigley, also Chair of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, pledged support for macro-policy collaboration, sharing experiences in governance, interest rates, foreign exchange, credit, and banking.

Four cooperation agreements were exchanged between Waikato University and Vietnamese universities, underscoring commitment and collaboration. Minister of Education and Training Nguyễn Kim Sơn conferred the “For the Cause of Việt Nam’s Education” insignia upon Prof. Quigley.

In a working session with Vietnamese professionals in New Zealand (VietTech NZ), PM Chính explored collaborative projects across sci-tech, education-training, health care, energy, trade, and environment. He endorsed mechanisms to engage overseas Vietnamese in domestic incubators and vice versa, supporting a global network of Vietnamese scientists. VietTech NZ proposed re-opening air routes and visa exemptions for New Zealand-based Vietnamese intellectuals to facilitate cooperation.

At a reception for Auckland Business Chamber chief executive Simon Bridges and New Zealand business executives, PM Chính urged increased bilateral trade to $2 billion. He emphasized collaboration in renewable energy, real estate, aviation, and fruit and vegetable trade. The New Zealand business delegates sought continued favorable conditions for investment in Vietnam.

The comprehensive discussions and agreements underscored the commitment to mutual growth and collaboration between Vietnam and New Zealand across various sectors. Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính’s visit aimed to reinforce ties and explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation.
