PM Phạm Minh Chính Calls for Stronger ASEAN Business-Government Collaboration
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has called on the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) to collaborate closely with governments and the people of ASEAN countries in driving further economic development. The Prime Minister made this call during a reception for ASEAN BAC chairmen, led by Oudet Souvannavong, ASEAN BAC Chair for 2024 and President of the Lao Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who were in Hanoi for the 101st ASEAN BAC meeting.
In his remarks, PM Chính highlighted ASEAN’s resilience in the face of global challenges. He emphasized that despite numerous difficulties, ASEAN has maintained steady growth and remains a key player in the global supply chain. The ASEAN economy, which is projected to grow by 4.6% this year, continues to be a “bright spot” in the global economy. The Prime Minister credited the contributions of the business community for this success.
For further development, PM Chính proposed that ASEAN BAC collaborate with ASEAN governments in several critical areas, including institutional and policy development, strengthening economic connectivity through infrastructure (especially in transport), and enhancing cooperation in the cultural, social, healthcare, and education sectors. He also stressed the importance of mobilizing resources and fostering new growth drivers, such as the digital, green, and knowledge economies.
Additionally, PM Chính urged ASEAN BAC to support the development of high-quality human resources, particularly in digital transformation, green transition, and high technology. He advocated for common standards on training, assessment, and mutual recognition of competency certifications across ASEAN countries, alongside efforts to build and manage smart, modern, and innovative enterprises.
The Prime Minister affirmed that he would encourage ASEAN leaders to implement preferential policies for ASEAN businesses, expressing confidence that the business community will continue to innovate and contribute to the region’s development. He also emphasized the pivotal role ASEAN BAC members will play in making ASEAN a top investment destination and fostering rapid, sustainable growth across the region.
At the meeting, ASEAN BAC Chair Oudet Souvannavong extended his condolences for the recent loss of life and property in Vietnam due to Typhoon Yagi, heavy rains, and floods. He commended Vietnam for its role in fostering a self-reliant and cohesive ASEAN and recognized the country’s contributions as a responsible partner in Greater Mekong region cooperation.
Oudet Souvannavong also announced that the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ASEAN BIS) will be held later this year in Vientiane, Laos, and expressed hopes for support from the Vietnamese government and the attendance of PM Chính. In response, PM Chính confirmed his participation in the upcoming summit.
