Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Thursday inaugurated the AZWOOL mineral rock wool plant, a major new industrial facility owned by Matanat-A company and located in Baku’s Garadagh district.

Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Matanat-A Elkhan Bashirov briefed the head of state on the plant’s operations before the official opening.

President Aliyev was given an overview of Matanat-A, founded in 2000 and operating for 25 years in the construction materials sector. The company encompasses several large production enterprises, including the Matanat-A dry construction mixtures plant, the AGHDAG gypsum board and gypsum products plant, the AZERLIME lime plant, equipment and machinery production facilities, and the ELBERG machine-building plant. Together, these enterprises employ nearly 1,000 people.

Constructed on a 10-hectare site, the new AZWOOL plant is equipped with state-of-the-art technology from the United States, Germany and Türkiye. It has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million cubic metres of mineral rock wool, with products manufactured primarily from local raw materials.

The project represents a total investment of 43 million manats. Of this, the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund under the Ministry of Economy provided a preferential loan of 10 million manats, and an investment promotion certificate facilitated nearly 4 million manats in concessions for imported equipment. The facility has created 180 new jobs.

Mineral rock wool is valued for its environmentally friendly properties, offering efficient thermal and acoustic insulation and contributing significantly to energy efficiency in construction. With high demand domestically and internationally, the AZWOOL plant is expected to meet Azerbaijan’s internal needs, reduce dependence on imports and support export growth to markets including Georgia, CIS countries and the Middle East.

President Aliyev also viewed a broad range of Matanat-A’s products. The company manufactures more than 3,000 items under over 200 trademarks, exporting them under the “Made in Azerbaijan” label to Kazakhstan, Georgia, Iraq, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and other destinations.

Following the tour, the head of state officially commissioned the AZWOOL mineral rock wool plant.
