President Jokowi Announces Continued Food Assistance Distribution from Government Rice Reserve
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: During his working visit to the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) warehouse in Pajangan, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced the continuation of the distribution of food assistance from the government rice reserve in February and March 2024. The President interacted with beneficiaries, expressing his commitment to providing ongoing support.
“Ladies and gentlemen, you have now received the 10 kg of rice. This will be given in January, February, and March,” President Jokowi stated while engaging with recipients at the distribution event.
Seeking the opinion of the beneficiaries, President Jokowi asked if they agreed to receive rice food assistance in the upcoming months. In a lighthearted moment, he added, “Agree or not? Those who do not agree, please raise your hands. If any, please come forward, I will give you a bicycle.” The positive response from the residents indicated their agreement with the continued assistance.
President Jokowi affirmed that the distribution of rice food assistance would persist until June 2024. Following the June distribution, the government will assess the state budget to determine the feasibility of continuing the assistance beyond that period.
“I will review our state budget (APBN), and if it is capable, then we will continue it,” he assured.
Addressing the quality of the rice distributed, President Jokowi reassured the recipients that the government rice reserve provided premium quality rice. Additionally, the President inquired about El-Nino direct cash assistance (BLT) and confirmed that those who had not received it would be assisted in February and March.
The President’s visit to the Bulog warehouse underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and supporting citizens in need, particularly during challenging times.
