President Mirziyoyev Reviews Construction Progress at Al-Khwarizmi Campus

Urgench, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed ongoing construction works at the Al-Khwarizmi Campus, a major educational and residential development project located near Urgench International Airport.

The President originally laid the foundation stone for the campus in August 2022. Since that time, significant progress has been made: engineering infrastructure has been completed and 72 residential buildings comprising 1,773 apartments have been constructed and are now in operation. An additional 28 apartment blocks — designed to provide 1,000 more units — are scheduled for completion this year. When finished, the complex will feature over 5,000 housing units.

Spanning more than 130 hectares, the Al-Khwarizmi Campus is set to become a symbol of scientific progress and innovation in Uzbekistan. Due to its proximity to the airport, the campus will serve as the first impression of the region for arriving visitors. At the center of the development, a grand monument to the renowned scholar Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi will be erected as a tribute to the legacy of the great mathematician and founder of algebra.

President Mirziyoyev was presented with the concept design for the monument, which will be located at the entrance of a 20-hectare landscaped park within the campus. The statue is planned to stand at 22 meters in height, rising over 30 meters when including the pedestal. The Head of State instructed responsible officials to further refine both the architectural and conceptual design of the monument and to expand the campus’s green spaces to enhance its aesthetic and environmental value.

In conjunction with this visit, the President signed a resolution establishing Al-Khwarizmi University and its affiliated specialized school. The university will house three key faculties: Mathematics and Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. Modeled after New Uzbekistan University, the institution will operate in collaboration with leading international universities from the United Arab Emirates, China, and the United Kingdom. Student enrollment is expected to begin in the 2025–2026 academic year, with an anticipated intake of 4,000 to 6,000 students.

The campus will also feature a branch of the Muhammad Al-Khwarizmi School from Tashkent. Admission will be determined through a competitive process for graduates of the 4th grade, and the final two years of schooling will emphasize foundational training in engineering disciplines.

Beyond its academic infrastructure, the Al-Khwarizmi Campus is envisioned as a modern urban environment. It will include a technopark, office buildings, medical and cultural institutions, green alleys, schools, kindergartens, sports facilities, as well as retail and service centers — creating a comprehensive ecosystem to support innovation, education, and community development.
