President of Uzbekistan meets with WTO DG

New York, The Gulf Observer: During the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev Tuesday met with the WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
At the meeting, measures taken to ensure Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO were discussed.

The President of Uzbekistan noted the importance of joining the organization, including considering the goals of medium- and long-term development.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev dwelled on the issues of preparing the next meeting of the Working Group, as well as strengthening the potential and improving the skills of specialists involved in the process.

The WTO Director-General highly appreciated the measures taken by Uzbekistan to join the organization.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed the WTO Secretariat’s full support for Uzbekistan’s efforts and confidence in the country’s accession in the near future.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to speed up the next meeting of the Working Group, improve the qualifications of specialists, and assist in harmonizing legislation with WTO agreements and rules.
