President Pezeshkian Calls for Muslim Unity at 38th International Islamic Unity Conference
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for increased unity and cohesion among Muslims, emphasizing that enemies continuously plot to sow division for their own gain. Pezeshkian made these remarks during the opening of the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference, which commenced in Tehran on Thursday. The event saw the participation of scholars and thinkers from various Islamic countries and around the world.
In his welcoming address to the attendees, Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of solidarity among Muslims, stating that “unity and cohesion increase our power.” He referenced the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions from Mecca to Medina as a historical example of overcoming division through brotherhood and cooperation.
The theme of this year’s conference, “Islamic Cooperation to Achieve Common Values with an Emphasis on Palestine Issue,” is expected to draw significant attention to the ongoing plight of Palestinians. Speakers will focus on addressing the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime and exploring ways to support the Palestinian cause.
Hamid Shahriari, Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, also addressed the gathering, criticizing the Zionist regime’s continued “betrayal and humiliation” across various spheres, including military, political, social, and economic fields. Shahriari described these defeats as part of a “divine promise” and urged resistance against the oppression of global arrogant powers.
Citing verses from the Qur’an, Shahriari stressed that peace and resistance are integral values for Muslims, promoting dignity, justice, and security as common Islamic goals for sustainable development. He condemned the genocide of Palestinians, highlighting the bloodshed of innocents, children, women, and the elderly in Gaza and other territories at the hands of oppressive powers.
The conference will run for three days, with more than 150 prominent figures, including prayer leaders, intellectuals, and activists from across the globe, in attendance. Organized annually by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, this event serves as a platform for discussing developments within the Islamic world and fostering collaboration among different Islamic sects and schools of thought.
