Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underscored the importance of inclusivity, equality, and sustainability in regional cooperation during his address on the first day of the 2025 APEC Summit held in Gyeongju, South Korea, on October 31.

Emphasizing that the outcomes of APEC’s partnerships and collective efforts should benefit all member economies equally, President Prabowo called for renewed commitment to unity and fairness across the Asia-Pacific region.

“Inclusivity must be our guidance, and sustainability must always be the main compass for a secure global future. APEC must ensure that the benefits of trade and investment reach every member, leaving no economy behind,” he said in a statement issued on Saturday.

At the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM), President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s strong commitment to multilateralism, urging all APEC members to uphold open, fair, and inclusive economic cooperation. He emphasized Indonesia’s support for a rules-based multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core, ensuring that all economies can compete on an equal footing.

Addressing the leaders and heads of delegations from 21 APEC member economies, President Prabowo reflected on the founding purpose of APEC in 1989 — to strengthen economic cooperation and build shared prosperity across the Asia-Pacific.

“APEC was founded on a shared belief in inclusive economic growth and cooperation. The core mission of APEC is to facilitate free trade and investment through multilateral collaboration, fostering a sense of community throughout our region,” he stated.

He further urged member economies to preserve the spirit of cooperation and solidarity that has long underpinned APEC’s success.

“This belief must be upheld. We must not allow divisions to undermine the stability that has long supported our growth,” the President added.

President Prabowo attended the 2025 APEC Summit accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Investment Minister and Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Prabowo held bilateral meetings with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Friday and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Saturday, discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen regional partnerships.
