President Prabowo, Saudi Crown Prince Discuss Middle East Escalation

President Prabowo

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto held a telephone conversation with Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the ongoing developments in the Middle East following the military escalation triggered by joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, the phone call took place on Wednesday and focused on the evolving security situation in the region. The two leaders reviewed the military escalation and its serious implications for regional and global peace.

During the conversation, President Prabowo stressed the importance of an immediate cessation of military actions in the Middle East, warning that continued hostilities could further undermine regional security and stability.

The conflict escalated after the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on several targets in Iran, including in the capital, Tehran, on February 28, resulting in damage and civilian casualties. Iran later responded with attacks targeting Israeli territory and U.S. military facilities in the region.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed on the first day of the military operation. He was subsequently succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, following a decision by the Assembly of Experts.

Amid the escalating tensions, Indonesia has reiterated its readiness to contribute to diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing hostilities. On February 28, the Indonesian government offered to mediate between the parties involved in an effort to help end the violence and restore peace in the region.

As the conflict entered its second week, Indonesia again expressed concern on March 9 over the continuing escalation, urging all sides to exercise restraint. Jakarta called on the United States and Israel to halt their attacks on Iran, while also urging Iran to refrain from launching attacks against neighboring countries.
