President Ruto to Launch Major Development Projects in Mt Kenya

Nairobi, The Gulf Observer: The Kenya Kwanza government is set to roll out extensive development projects and revive several stalled initiatives in the Mt Kenya region as President William Ruto prepares for a highly anticipated tour next week.
The President aims to commission multibillion-shilling projects and rejuvenate abandoned “white elephant” ventures that have fueled growing dissatisfaction in the region. His visit comes in the wake of increased political tensions following the removal of his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Ahead of the tour, Ruto has convened multiple meetings with elected and appointed leaders from Mt Kenya to strategize on his itinerary and address concerns over stalled projects. Discussions have focused on revitalizing key economic sectors, including coffee, tea, and dairy farming, as well as infrastructure, affordable housing, and fresh produce markets.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been engaging with Mt Kenya leaders to prepare for the visit, which is shaping up to be politically significant. Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, a critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, has announced he will not accompany the President.
Mt Kenya played a crucial role in Ruto’s 2022 presidential victory, delivering over 3.5 million votes. However, growing frustration over stalled projects and recent political realignments—where allies of former Deputy President Gachagua were ousted from key parliamentary roles—has heightened tensions.
Dennis Itumbi, Head of Special Projects at the Presidency, has hinted at a nationwide rollout of large-scale road projects, including in Mt Kenya, as part of the upcoming development push. Ruto is expected to showcase revived projects and clarify funding sources to ensure completion.
While some critics have expressed skepticism about the visit, they have signaled willingness to engage, provided the President guarantees the fulfillment of long-delayed infrastructure projects.
