Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for all-out efforts to combat floods and droughts, emphasizing the importance of effective disaster relief measures to protect lives, property, and social stability. The directive was issued in response to recent severe weather conditions affecting various parts of the country.

In his capacity as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, President Xi highlighted the urgency of addressing the heavy and persistent rainfall in the southern regions and the droughts plaguing some northern areas. He stressed the necessity of exhaustive efforts to locate and rescue those missing or trapped, to provide adequate support for disaster victims, to maintain normalcy in daily life and work, and to minimize the overall damage.

As China enters its main flood season, President Xi urged all localities and departments to enhance disaster monitoring and early warning systems, ensure the availability of necessary equipment and materials, and respond promptly to emergencies.

Several provinces have already initiated or upgraded their emergency responses to flooding, following intense downpours and rising river levels in June. Concurrently, central and northern China are experiencing extreme heat, with many national weather stations recording unprecedented high temperatures.

President Xi’s instructions underscore the importance of preparedness and swift action in the face of natural disasters, reinforcing the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and maintaining social order during these challenging times.
