Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Attend “One Water Summit” in Riyadh from Tomorrow
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is set to embark on a two-day visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 3-4, 2024, to participate in the “One Water Summit.”
The Summit, a joint initiative by Saudi Arabia, France, Kazakhstan, and the World Bank, seeks to foster global collaboration and a unified international approach to water resource management through high-level political commitments, as stated in a curtain-raiser by the Foreign Office.
During the Summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will deliver a keynote address at a Roundtable focusing on the restoration, preservation, and adaptation of freshwater resources and wetlands.
He is expected to highlight Pakistan’s efforts in promoting water conservation, enhancing climate resilience, improving water quality, creating livelihoods, and conserving biodiversity. Furthermore, the prime minister will emphasize the importance of international cooperation to address challenges such as climate-induced floods, extreme weather patterns, and heat stress affecting water resources and ecosystems.
On the sidelines of the event, the prime minister is anticipated to engage in bilateral meetings and discussions, further strengthening Pakistan’s ties with participating nations and organizations.
The “One Water Summit” represents a significant platform for advancing sustainable water resource management and addressing the pressing global challenges related to water and climate change.
