Qatar Advances Towards Green Economy and Sustainable Development
Doha, The Gulf Observer: Qatar continues to make significant strides towards establishing a green economy aligned with global sustainability goals, underscoring its commitment to diversified economic growth and sustainable development.

A landmark achievement in this pursuit is the recent announcement by the Ministry of Finance regarding the issuance of $2.5 billion in green bonds, the first of its kind in the region. These bonds aim to finance environmentally friendly projects, demonstrating Qatar’s proactive stance in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development.
Qatar’s commitment to the green economy is further exemplified by QatarEnergy’s updated Sustainability Strategy. This strategy focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, notably through the expanded deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to capture over 11 million tons of CO2 annually by 2035. Additionally, QatarEnergy aims to increase solar capacity to more than 5 GW and minimize methane emissions throughout the gas value chain.
