Qatar and Australia Strengthen Ties During High-Level Meeting in Canberra

Canberra, The Gulf Observer: On Tuesday, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, Her Excellency Penny Wong. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on economic ties, trade exchange, clean energy, and technological collaboration.
The meeting also addressed several pressing regional and international issues, including the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. Both leaders explored ways to reduce tensions in the Middle East, with a view to enhancing regional and global security and stability. The latest developments in Afghanistan were also a key topic of discussion.
During the talks, HE Penny Wong expressed Australia’s support for joint efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. She also praised the State of Qatar for its pivotal role in repatriating Australian citizens stranded during the Covid-19 pandemic via Qatar Airways. Additionally, she acknowledged Qatar’s crucial assistance in evacuating Australians from Afghanistan and the Gaza Strip.
The meeting underscored the strong and growing partnership between Qatar and Australia, highlighting shared commitments to peace, stability, and mutual cooperation.
