Qatar, Egypt to enhance bilateral relations
Doha, The Gulf Observer: The Shura Council of Qatar held yesterday an official talks session with the House of Representatives of Egypt, to discuss bilateral relations between the two sides, especially in the parliamentary field, and ways to enhance them.
Speaker of the Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdulla Al Ghanim chaired the Qatari side, while Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives H E Dr. Hanafy Ali Gebaly chaired the Egyptian side of the talks session.
At the outset of the session, the Speaker of Shura Council welcomed the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, stressing that his visit to Qatar reflects the depth of the two countries’ relations, which is remarkably growing in all fields.
Dr. Hanafy Ali Gebaly thanked the Speaker of Shura Council, and underlined the outstanding relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples.
He also voiced appreciation of the remarkable development taking place in the State of Qatar in various fields, and praised the meticulous organisation of the World Cup, stressing that the tournament has succeeded in achieving its goals in terms of bringing people together and contributing to cultural exchange, in addition to the great gains of bringing together Arab peoples to the land of Qatar.
During the talks session, which touched on several topics related to bilateral relations between the two countries, the two sides stressed the need to increase cooperation between the Shura Council and the Egyptian House of Representatives.
They also emphasized the importance of boosting coordination of parliamentary positions between the two councils in regional and international forums, exchanging experiences, as well as increasing mutual visits.
After the session, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aimed at strengthening cooperation and joint coordination between the Shura Council and the Egyptian House of Representatives, and exchanging experiences and visits between them.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Egyptian delegation toured the Shura Council building and the “Tamim bin Hamad” hall, and were briefed on the council’s work mechanisms.
