Qatar Participates in Washington Peace Agreement Signing Between Rwanda and DR Congo

Washington, The Gulf Observer: The State of Qatar participated in the official signing ceremony of the Peace Agreement between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, held in Washington and facilitated by the United States of America.

His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented the State of Qatar at the high-level event.

In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency welcomed the signing of the agreement and commended the sincere political will and genuine commitment shown by both parties to embrace peaceful and diplomatic pathways to resolve their differences.

HE Dr. Al Khulaifi highlighted Qatar’s pride in having contributed positively to the peace process, recalling the trilateral summit held in Doha on March 18, 2025, which brought together HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, and President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Felix Tshisekedi. He noted that the Doha summit served as a critical turning point for establishing direct dialogue and fostering confidence-building between the two sides.

His Excellency also expressed appreciation for the constructive role played by the United States, whose support was instrumental in concluding the peace agreement. The deal is expected to mark a new era of enhanced peace, security, and stability in the Great Lakes region.

Furthermore, HE the Minister of State reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for African-led mediation efforts, particularly those spearheaded by the African Union, as well as the resolutions adopted during the Joint Summit of the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on February 8, 2025.

In closing, His Excellency reiterated Qatar’s full readiness to work in close cooperation with regional and international partners to support a sustainable and comprehensive peace that meets the aspirations of the peoples of the region.
