Qatar to host Gulf Engineering Forum

Doha, The Gulf Observer: Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, the State of Qatar will host the 24th Gulf Engineering Forum from March 7 to 9, under the theme ‘Environmental Engineering and Sustainability’.

A official press conference was held yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Municipality to announce the event which is organised by the Ministry of Municipality in cooperation with the Gulf Engineering Union and the Qatar Society of Engineers.

The press conference was attended by Eng. Khalid bin Ahmed Al Nasr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Society of Engineers and Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Forum.

Eng. Khalid affirmed what an honour it is for Qatar to host for the fourth time the activities of the Gulf Engineering Forum, as the twenty-fourth edition of the forum comes this year in light of the engineering renaissance witnessed by the State of Qatar and all Gulf countries.

He also added that the forum this year is held under the auspices of H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and in the presence of a number of ministers and dignitaries from Qatar, Gulf states and Arab countries.

Engineer Khaled Al Nasr confirmed that the activities of the Gulf Engineering Forum titled “Environmental Engineering and Sustainability,” will be held over a period of three days from March 7 to 9 at the Sheraton Doha Hotel. As for the conference, it will witness a number of discussion sessions for a group of speakers from Qatar and the Gulf countries.

More than 220 working papers were submitted to be presented during the conference that cover topics including the environment, sustainability and smart cities. Twenty six of the submitted papers were reviewed and selected by the scientific committee to be presented during the three day event.

Engineer Khaled also stated that the forum will witness the honouring of a number of engineering pioneers from Qatar and the Gulf countries. An engineering project that achieves environmental and sustainability standards will also be selected to be the winner of the Engineering Excellence and Creativity Award, organized by the Gulf Engineering Union.

Engineer Khaled Al Nasr noted that the engineering forum will be accompanied by an engineering exhibition specialised in the environment and sustainability, in which a number of governmental and semi-governmental agencies and the private sector from Qatar and the Gulf countries will participate to present the most prominent ideas, projects and engineering services in the field of environment and sustainability. The 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Gulf Engineering Union will also be celebrated.

At the end of the conference, the speakers expressed appreciation to the sponsors who contributed to supporting the organization of this event, the most important of which is the platinum sponsor, the Investment Holding Group, all bronze sponsors including, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Kahramaa, the Public Works Authority, Qatar International Islamic Bank, the College of Engineering at Qatar University, Al Sharq Newspaper, and many sponsors and supporters of the Gulf Engineering Forum.

The conference and accompanying exhibition will be open to the public to visit and attend discussion sessions and presentations of working papers for all specialists in the engineering sector.
