Qatar, US, and Egypt Unite in Urgent Call for Gaza Ceasefire
Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: In a joint statement issued today, U.S. President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and the Amir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, called for the immediate implementation of a ceasefire and the release of hostages and detainees in Gaza. The leaders emphasized the urgent need to provide relief to the long-suffering people of Gaza and to secure the freedom of hostages and peace of mind for their families.
The statement highlights the extensive efforts by the three leaders and their teams over recent months to develop a comprehensive framework agreement. This agreement, built on principles outlined by President Biden on May 31, 2024, and endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2735, is now ready for implementation, with only the final details left to be resolved.
“There is no further time to waste nor excuses from any party for further delay. It is time to release the hostages, begin the ceasefire, and implement this agreement,” the statement read.
The leaders expressed their willingness to present a final bridging proposal to resolve any outstanding implementation issues if necessary. They also urged both parties involved to resume urgent discussions on Thursday, August 15, in either Doha or Cairo, with the goal of closing all remaining gaps and commencing the implementation of the agreement without further delay.
This unified call from President Biden, President el-Sisi, and Amir Sheikh Tamim underscores the critical importance of immediate action to achieve peace and stability in the region.
