Doha, The Gulf Observer: Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held crucial discussions on Tuesday at Lusail Palace with the Secretary of State of the United States of America, HE Antony Blinken, currently visiting the country.

The meeting centered around the robust strategic ties between the two friendly nations, with a focus on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. Both leaders expressed concern over the escalating cycle of violence in the region and deliberated on its potential repercussions on both regional and global security and stability.

A significant part of the dialogue involved the efforts of Qatar and the United States to secure an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, paving the way for a just, comprehensive, and sustainable solution to the longstanding Palestinian cause. The discussions also addressed the resumption of the process of exchanging detainees and prisoners between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

In response to the pressing and urgent needs in the Gaza Strip, particularly in water, food, and medicines, both parties explored ways to accelerate and increase the pace of humanitarian aid delivery.

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani emphasized that ending the aggression on Gaza is not only the demand of the residents but also a collective call from nations in the region and the world. He highlighted the complexity added to the situation by the expansion of the violence cycle and its spillover into surrounding countries.

HE Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s appeal to all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, resort to wisdom, avoid escalation, and refrain from decisions that could lead to further bloodshed. He underscored the importance of addressing the root causes of the region’s crises, notably the Palestinian cause, and urged for the separation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from claims against a few of its personnel.

The Prime Minister emphasized the cataclysmic consequences of halting funding for UNRWA and called for international attention to uphold the institution’s deep-rooted values and traditions. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting resolution to the crisis in the region.
