Romania Poised for Record-Breaking Wheat Harvest in 2025, Exports to Include Pakistan
Bucharest, The Gulf Observer: Romania is on track to achieve the largest wheat harvest in its history, with production expected to reach an unprecedented 12 million tons in 2025, according to agricultural experts and industry sources.
Favourable weather conditions, coupled with strategic planting decisions by Romanian farmers, have set the stage for this milestone. Reports indicate peak yields of up to 9 tons per hectare in the western regions of the country, reflecting significant productivity improvements.
Farmers across Romania sowed approximately 2.3 million hectares of wheat, marking a notable shift from spring crops such as sunflower and corn. This change was largely driven by the devastating drought experienced in 2024, prompting the agricultural sector to prioritize more resilient winter crops.
The anticipated bumper harvest could generate revenues of around €2.4 billion, based on current wheat prices averaging €200 per ton, providing a substantial boost to Romania’s economy and the European grain market.
Moreover, Romania plans to export a portion of this record wheat harvest to Pakistan, contributing to food security efforts in South Asia and strengthening bilateral trade ties.
Agricultural analysts note that Romania’s position as one of Europe’s key grain exporters is becoming increasingly significant, particularly amid global concerns over food supply and price volatility.
