Romania Thanks Pakistan for Assistance in Safe Repatriation of Its Citizens

Romania

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: The Embassy of Romania in Islamabad, in cooperation with Pakistani authorities, successfully carried out a complex operation on March 10 to ensure the safe evacuation and repatriation of five Romanian citizens from the mountainous regions of northern Pakistan.

According to the embassy, the diplomatic mission received information that the five Romanian nationals were located in the Ushu Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan, a remote area of the Karakoram mountain range known for peaks exceeding 7,000 meters. The region is currently considered security-sensitive. In light of recent regional developments and the deteriorating security situation—linked to tensions in the Middle East and security concerns along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border—their urgent evacuation and return were prioritized.

The five Romanian citizens had entered Pakistan on February 24 and recently contacted the Romanian Embassy in Islamabad requesting assistance for evacuation and repatriation. Prior to their request, the diplomatic mission had not been aware of their presence in the area.

With the support of the Gilgit-Baltistan local administration, local police, and representatives of the Pakistan Army, the embassy successfully located the individuals and ensured their safe transfer along the Ushu Valley–Gilgit–Islamabad route. The operation, which involved complex logistical and security arrangements, lasted more than 48 hours.

Following the operation, the five Romanian citizens were safely placed on a flight from Islamabad to Istanbul and are currently en route to Cluj-Napoca.

The embassy expressed gratitude to the local authorities, police, and the Pakistan Army for their prompt and professional cooperation and excellent coordination in ensuring the safety of the Romanian citizens and assisting the diplomatic mission. Special appreciation was also extended to the embassy’s consular team for their dedication and professionalism in handling the situation.
