Romania, US Reaffirm Strategic Cooperation on Rare Minerals and Supply Chain Security

Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu held talks with Doug Burgum, the United States Secretary of the Interior, during an official visit to Washington, as part of a working lunch on the sidelines of the rare minerals ministerial meeting.

During the discussions, Minister Țoiu underscored that the economic security of Romania and the European Union increasingly depends on resilient and secure supply chains. She noted that Romania shares the vision of its American partners on reducing bureaucratic hurdles for strategic investments, while upholding the highest standards of transparency, environmental protection, and governance.

Highlighting the strategic importance of rare minerals, the Romanian foreign minister said these resources are central to modern technology, including smartphones, electric vehicles, and green energy storage solutions. She outlined Romania’s growing role in the sector, pointing to three designated strategic projects focused on magnesium, graphite, and copper, all aligned with European standards.

Minister Țoiu also emphasized ongoing efforts by the Romanian government to simplify administrative procedures in order to attract foreign investment, create secure jobs, and enhance industrial competitiveness. She added that Romania is strengthening its partnership with the United States to ensure stable and secure markets for its strategic resources.

Concluding the meeting, the foreign minister stressed the importance of translating Romania’s significant natural and industrial potential into tangible outcomes for a modern economy, in close cooperation with strategic international partners.
