Bilateral Cooperation

Karachi, The Gulf Observer: The Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, met with Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah in Karachi to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, renewable energy, education, and culture.

Ambassador Stoenescu underscored Romania’s strong interest in deepening economic engagement with Sindh, highlighting potential collaboration in industrial manufacturing, textiles, food processing, information technology, and renewable energy. He proposed the establishment of a Romania–Sindh Economic Dialogue Platform to connect Romanian and Sindhi business chambers and encouraged Romanian companies to explore opportunities in Sindh’s Special Economic Zones.

The two sides also discussed avenues for cooperation in renewable energy, particularly wind and solar projects in the Jhimpir Corridor, as well as partnerships in agriculture and agro-industry. They reviewed progress toward the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ports of Constanța and Karachi to enhance cooperation in maritime logistics, port management, and training.

Ambassador Stoenescu emphasized Romania’s readiness to share its EU-aligned expertise in governance, urban planning, and digital administration to strengthen institutional collaboration with Sindh.

On the cultural and educational front, Romania announced its participation in the upcoming World Culture Festival in Karachi, featuring Romanian opera and ballet performances, and in the European Film Festival with a Romanian feature film. The meeting also explored the establishment of new academic partnerships, scholarship opportunities for Sindhi students, and the potential opening of a campus by a private Romanian university in Karachi.

The discussions further covered cooperation in climate resilience, water management, and sustainable urban development, drawing on Romania’s experience in managing the Danube River Basin. Both sides also considered EU-funded collaboration in public health, disaster response, and women’s empowerment.

Concluding the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and plan a visit of a Romanian business delegation to Sindh in 2026 to advance the initiatives discussed.
