Russia Maintains Close Ties with Muslim World, Says Envoy

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert Khorev, has said that nearly one-fifth of Russia’s population follows Islam, underscoring Moscow’s long-standing and constructive relations with the Muslim world.
Addressing a conference on Russian diplomacy and Pakistan–Russia relations at the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), Ambassador Khorev described bilateral ties between Pakistan and Russia as exemplary, noting that relations continue to strengthen with the passage of time.
Commenting on the situation in Afghanistan, the ambassador observed that the country initially witnessed a relative improvement in security under the current rulers. However, he added that the Afghan authorities have yet to gain international recognition.
Ambassador Khorev acknowledged Pakistan’s concerns regarding terrorism, terming them legitimate and deserving of serious consideration. He emphasized the need for coordinated regional efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability.
Highlighting Russia’s role in global affairs, he said Moscow is playing a constructive part in addressing international conflicts, including the ongoing crisis in Gaza. He added that consultations would be held with Russia and allied countries to deliberate on the evolving situation.
Referring to the conflict in Ukraine, the ambassador stated that Russia’s economy has withstood sanctions pressure and continues to demonstrate growth.
He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in conflict-affected regions across the world.
