Safeguarding Turkish Rights in Europe is Our Top Priority: Erdogan

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: In a resolute call to action, Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized the imperative of safeguarding the rights and well-being of the Turkish people residing in Europe. Addressing a meeting of the Union of International Democrats (UID) based in Cologne, Germany, Erdogan underscored the escalating threats faced by the Turkish community, ranging from Islamophobia to cultural racism.

In a video message delivered on Saturday, President Erdogan asserted, “In a period where various threats, from Islamophobia to cultural racism, escalate in Europe, our primary duty as a union is to defend the rights and interests of Turkish people in Europe without deviating from democracy and the rule of law.”

Erdogan outlined the approach to this defense, emphasizing the need for determination and adherence to laws and regulations. He called for collaboration with other Turkish civil society organizations and the utilization of new media tools in the collective struggle.

“We expect you to contribute more to the political, social, economic, cultural, and scientific life of the country where you reside,” Erdogan urged the Turkish community in Europe.

Advocating for the preservation of cultural identity, President Erdogan emphasized the importance of teaching children their language, culture, and the values of civilization. He stated, “Our greatest weapon against assimilation is to teach our children their mother tongue, culture, and the values of civilization, ensuring the guarantee of our future.”

Expressing confidence in the Union of International Democrats, Erdogan called for continuous steps in defending the Turkish community’s rights in Europe. He pledged Türkiye’s unwavering support in this meaningful and important struggle, reiterating a two-decade-long commitment.

“May Allah be our supporter. I extend my love and respect to all our citizens living outside of Türkiye, especially in Europe, through you. I hope your congress will once again be auspicious,” President Erdogan concluded, expressing optimism for the UID’s continued efforts in this crucial endeavor.
