SCCI Explores Economic Collaboration with Sri Lankan Consul-General-Designate

Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), and Alexi Fonseka Gunasekera, Consul-General-designate of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, convened at the SCCI headquarters to discuss strategies for enhancing economic cooperation and fostering investment partnerships between the business communities of Sharjah and Sri Lanka.
The meeting, held in the presence of Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, Director-General of the SCCI, and Fatima Khalifa Al Mokarrab, Director of the SCCI’s International Relations Department, focused on incentivizing businesses across diverse sectors to strengthen the exchange of information regarding investment opportunities.
Both parties underscored the significance of private sector participation in trade and industrial exhibitions, exploring avenues for Sharjah and Sri Lanka’s business communities to collaborate effectively. Discussions also delved into the potential for reciprocal visits of trade delegations, paving the way for new business forums and enhanced communication channels.
The meeting highlighted the commitment to expanding the horizons of mutual investment endeavors in key sectors, with the aim of stimulating sustainable and inclusive economic growth in both countries.
Abdullah Sultan Al Owais extended a warm welcome to the Sri Lankan Consul, emphasizing the SCCI’s dedication to fostering cooperation with the Sri Lankan business community. He expressed keen interest in exploring diverse investment opportunities and discovering the advantages and incentives offered by Sri Lanka’s investment environment.
Drawing attention to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the UAE and Sri Lanka to enhance cooperation in civil aviation, Al Owais noted that this relationship opens avenues for Sharjah’s business community to identify promising future investment prospects, particularly within the tourism and services sectors. These sectors, he highlighted, exhibit favorable indicators for fruitful collaboration.
The SCCI Chairman stressed that the MoU, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, supports diverse tourism services, and enhances the performance of business sectors across various commercial, industrial, and service activities. The collaborative efforts between Sharjah and Sri Lanka set the stage for mutually beneficial economic growth and increased opportunities for investment and trade.
