Serdar Berdimuhamedov Receives Asian Development Bank President in Ashgabat

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Tuesday received President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Masato Kanda, who arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit to further strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

Expressing appreciation for the warm reception, Masato Kanda highlighted Turkmenistan’s significant role in fostering peace and stability across the Central Asian region, noting the country’s consistent policy of neutrality as a foundation for regional cooperation.

President Berdimuhamedov warmly welcomed the head of the Asian Development Bank and expressed confidence that Kanda’s visit would contribute to a constructive exchange of views on enhancing the Turkmenistan–ADB partnership. The Head of State wished the visiting delegation success in their upcoming discussions.

Underscoring the central role of international collaboration in Turkmenistan’s long-term economic strategy, President Berdimuhamedov noted the productive and enduring cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ADB over the past 25 years. He emphasized that bilateral projects continue to be implemented within the framework of Turkmenistan’s national cooperation strategy.

During the meeting, the sides discussed avenues for intensifying collaboration in financial, credit, and consulting services, particularly to support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

It was recalled that on May 17, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Committee for the Construction of Arkadag City and the Asian Development Bank. The document provides new opportunities for partnership in energy, water conservation, and renewable energy development within the framework of Arkadag City’s “smart city” concept.

The parties also identified the fuel and energy sector as another strategic area for deepening cooperation, noting its importance for Turkmenistan’s sustainable development agenda.

Concluding the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President Masato Kanda exchanged warm wishes, expressing confidence in the continued expansion of their mutually beneficial partnership.
