Sharjah Ruler Attends Closing Ceremony of 35th Sharjah Theatre Days

Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, attended the closing ceremony of the 35th edition of Sharjah Theatre Days (STD), held at the Sharjah Cultural Palace on Tuesday evening, in the presence of Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi.

During the ceremony, H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah honoured distinguished theatre figures, including Mohammed Jaber, recipient of the 19th Sharjah Award for Theatre Creativity, and Emirati artist Jamal Al Sumaiti, recognised for his contributions to the local cultural scene.

The attendees viewed visual presentations highlighting the careers of the honoured artists, showcasing their extensive contributions to theatre and their pivotal roles in enriching the cultural and artistic landscape. The presentations also underscored their efforts in nurturing emerging talents and advancing Emirati theatre both domestically and across the Arab world.

Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi also honoured the winners of the Sharjah Theatre Days Awards for its 35th edition. The play “Hayr Qarmousha” by Sharjah National Theatre secured the award for Best Integrated Theatrical Performance, while director Elham Mohammed won Best Theatre Direction for “Nisf Laila” by Khorfakkan Arts Theatre.

Ismail Abdullah received the Best Theatrical Composition award for “Hayr Qarmousha,” while Abdullah Al Khadim was named Best First-Role Actor for “Qamoos Al Ekhtifaat.” Sara Al Saadi earned Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in “Hayr Qarmousha.”

In supporting categories, Shaaban Sbeit won Best Actor in a Secondary Role for “Ghayaheb Al Rouh,” while Badriya Al Ali received Best Actress in a Secondary Role for “Nisf Laila.” Mansour Al Zaabi was honoured as Best Promising Actor, and Amani Balaj received the Arab Artist Award.

The Special Jury Prize was awarded to Dubai Al Ahli Theatre for “Sona.”

Technical excellence awards included Best Décor for Waleed Omran (“Hayr Qarmousha”), Best Makeup for Nasra Al Maamari (“Nisf Laila”), Best Lighting for Majed Al Mueeni (“Hayr Qarmousha”), Best Musical Composition and Sound Effects for Ibrahim Al Amiri, and Best Costumes and Accessories for Abeer Al Jassmi.

The ceremony was also attended by senior officials, including Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, and Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, alongside a wide gathering of artists, media representatives, and theatre professionals.

The event underscored Sharjah’s continued commitment to fostering cultural excellence and supporting the performing arts across the region.
