Shavkat Mirziyoyev receives President of European Council

New York, The Gulf Observer: The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev Monday received the President of the European Council Charles Michel, at his residence in New York City.

Issues of further enhancing multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Europe, primarily in the political, trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian spheres, were considered.

The current highest level of bilateral relations was noted with particular satisfaction. The visit of the head of the European Council to Uzbekistan, summits in the “EU-Central Asia” format, the International Conference on Connectivity, and economic forums were successfully held.

Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan’s trade turnover with EU countries has increased by 35 percent, large investment projects are being implemented with leading European companies, and significant cultural events are being held.

At the meeting, issues of the early adoption of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, the creation of favorable conditions for increasing the volume of mutual trade and investment, and deepening cooperation in the main sectors of the economy, including through the conclusion of bilateral documents on a long-term basis, were discussed.

President of the European Council Charles Michel emphasized the leading role of the Leader of Uzbekistan in promoting regional cooperation, strengthening relations of trust, good neighborliness, and partnership in Central Asia.

Special attention was paid to developing effective international transport corridors, particularly the Trans-Caspian multimodal route.

Views were also exchanged on the emerging situation in Afghanistan, including efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

The schedule of the upcoming multilateral events was considered.
