Shavkat Mirziyoyev Reviews Major Projects in Construction, Education, Tourism, and Industry
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev conducted a review of key projects across several sectors, including construction, education, tourism, and industry. The presentation highlighted the government’s efforts to foster development and modernization, with a particular focus on the transformative New Tashkent initiative.
The construction of New Tashkent began in April this year, with the first buildings symbolically dedicated to science and spirituality. President Mirziyoyev emphasized that this project would serve as a model for creating an enlightened society. Among the focal points of this development is a complex designed by the renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, which will include the Alisher Navoi International Research Center, the Literature Museum, and the National Maqom Center. This modern architectural complex is expected to become a major international tourism hub, thanks to its unique blend of aesthetics, functionality, and integration with the natural environment.
Another key feature of the New Tashkent project is the revitalization of the Chirchik River, where a 6-kilometer-long recreational zone will be developed. The area will feature green spaces, hotels, health facilities, and entertainment centers, catering to both residents and tourists.
In preparation for hosting the 43rd General Conference of UNESCO in 2025, which will take place in Samarkand, the President reviewed ongoing efforts to preserve and promote Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage. The Art and Culture Development Foundation, along with the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, is leading these initiatives. Detailed plans are in place to ensure the city is well-prepared for the event, with improved infrastructure, hotels, and cultural programs to accommodate international participants.
In the education sector, significant progress is being made to enhance higher education facilities. President Mirziyoyev reviewed the development of a new campus for Bukhara State University, which will centralize all faculties, dormitories, and facilities in one location, alleviating logistical challenges faced by students and staff. The new 43-hectare campus will feature modern classrooms, laboratories, a library, and sports facilities, with an expanded dormitory capacity for 6,000 students.
In tourism, Khiva remains one of Uzbekistan’s most important destinations. Recent infrastructure improvements, including the planned construction of a 450-meter overpass near the railway station, will enhance accessibility and safety for visitors. This new road will streamline traffic while allowing pedestrians to move freely between the station and the historical Ichan Kala site.
President Mirziyoyev also reviewed progress in Tashkent’s industrial sector. Over the past year, $2 billion worth of investments have been made, resulting in the commissioning of nearly 200 industrial projects and the creation of over 25,000 jobs. The Yangihayot district technology park is home to 46 enterprises currently under construction, and the President urged the timely completion of these projects, with a particular focus on energy conservation measures.
The presentation underscored Uzbekistan’s commitment to comprehensive development across key sectors, fostering economic growth, and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
