Shavkat Mirziyoyev Reviews Progress and Sets New Development Targets for Jizzakh Region

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a high-level meeting to assess the effectiveness of ongoing reforms, the implementation progress in the districts of Jizzakh region, and to address issues concerning the local population. The review was conducted within the framework of the Presidential Resolution adopted on December 31, 2024, which outlines priority measures for the region’s accelerated socio-economic development.
Under the 2025 development plan, Jizzakh region aims to attract $2 billion in investments, raise exports to $285 million, and create 168,000 jobs. These targets are being pursued in phases, with tangible progress recorded in the first half of the year. So far, 200 projects have been launched across industry, agriculture, and services, bringing in $662 million in investments. However, the President noted that certain districts—namely Dustlik, Zafarabad, Pakhtakor, and Mirzachul—are lagging behind and require special focus for the placement of new projects to stimulate employment and economic activity.
The tourism sector in Jizzakh is also witnessing significant growth, with newly launched tourist complexes valued at $250 million resulting in a twofold increase in tourist arrivals. President Mirziyoyev stressed the need to sustain and expand this momentum.
Another key area of concern is the underutilization of agricultural land. Of the region’s 1.3 million hectares of farmland, only 40 percent is currently cultivated. Moreover, income per hectare remains below the national average. The President emphasized that more efficient use of land could substantially increase the production of food and livestock feed.
In response to these challenges and opportunities, a Reform Headquarters has been established in the Jizzakh region on the President’s initiative. It brings together government officials, sectoral experts, and leading entrepreneurs to drive forward targeted development strategies.
During the meeting, a package of new projects developed by the Reform Headquarters was presented. The plan outlines 200 new projects with a combined investment value of $520 million. These initiatives are expected to create 12,000 jobs, add 120 billion UZS in budget revenues, and generate $100 million in exports.
President Mirziyoyev reviewed the economic viability and market relevance of the proposed initiatives, stressing the importance of close coordination between district governors (hokims) and the regional reform headquarters. He noted that with effective implementation, Jizzakh could emerge as one of Uzbekistan’s fastest-growing regions in terms of investment inflows, job creation, household income growth, and export expansion.
The meeting concluded with directives aimed at ensuring the timely and high-quality execution of all projects, with an overarching goal to significantly enhance the region’s socio-economic landscape.
